Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about the AI Yard Design workflow, credits, climate-aware options, photo preparation, and using a generated concept.
General Questions
What is AI Yard Design?
AI Yard Design is a professional-grade landscape design platform that combines landscape-design principles with artificial intelligence. It analyzes your outdoor-space photo and creates a visualization based on your preferred direction and location context.
How does AI Yard Design differ from other design tools?
The workflow is organized around real landscape choices: spatial planning, materials, planting compatibility, regional climate, and styles tailored to each outdoor area. The result is intended as a practical concept rather than a generic picture of another property.
Is AI Yard Design free to use?
New accounts receive 2 free credits. Quick preview uses 1 credit. Purchasing any credit pack unlocks Best quality, higher-resolution planning sheets, My Designs, and cloud saving.
Who is the platform for?
It serves homeowners exploring a front yard, backyard, patio, garden, side yard, or pool project, as well as professionals creating early concepts for parks, commercial sites, residential communities, restoration work, and streetscapes.
Design Process
What styles and functions are available?
Front Yard includes 15 styles and Pool & Spa includes 10. Backyard has 15 functional directions, Patio has 11 layouts, Garden Retreat has 14 goals, and Side Yard has 6 narrow-space styles. Large-scale projects use a separate set of planning presets.
How does climate adaptation work?
The Location field gives the generator context about precipitation, temperature, growing zone, familiar plant palettes, and locally appropriate materials. You can edit or remove the location at any time, and local verification is still recommended before planting.
What is the step-by-step process?
Upload a clear photo, choose the area and required style or function, add optional elements and location, select Quick or Best quality, generate, then compare, download, share, or fine-tune. Most runs finish in about one to two minutes.
How accurate are plant recommendations?
Recommendations use regional and horticultural context, but local soil, irrigation, exposure, availability, pets, and microclimates can change what succeeds. Confirm final species and mature sizes with a local nursery or landscape professional.
Technical
What are the best photo requirements?
Use a sharp, wide daylight view that clearly shows the design area and the house or fixed hardscape. JPG, PNG, and HEIC are supported up to 20MB. Higher-resolution images with even light generally produce clearer concepts.
What is the difference between Quick and Best quality?
Quick preview produces a single clean image for 1 credit. Best quality produces a taller three-part design sheet with a clean design, numbered items, and a DIY plant list. Best costs 2, 3, or 4 credits at 1K, 2K, or 4K.
Do I need to draw on or mask my photo?
No. Select the relevant area type and its style or function. The generator focuses on that zone and tries to preserve the home and major existing structure.
How is my data handled?
Images and prompts are processed to provide the service. Saved-design visibility is account controlled, while results marked public may appear in the gallery. See the Privacy Policy for storage, third-party processing, deletion, and contact details.
Using Your Design
How can I implement a generated concept?
Use the image and planning list as an early shopping and communication guide, share it with a landscaper, or build the project in phases. Verify measurements, grading, drainage, utilities, structural work, and permits before construction.
Can I modify a design after generation?
Yes. Try another preset, change optional elements, update your requirements, or use Fine-tune to describe a focused change such as swapping paving, adding a fire pit, or simplifying the planting.
Are the materials and hardscape construction-ready?
They are visual recommendations, not engineered documents. A qualified professional should review retaining walls, structures, electrical work, water features, code requirements, quantities, and site-specific construction details.
